How is your beef raised?

Our cattle are pasture-raised and then finished on a mix of cereal grains and hay we grow ourselves to ensure the highest quality. This feed is conventionally raised according to the Tri County Soil and Conservation District standards using no-till methods, and we’ve received the Chamber of Commerce Environmental Award and Conservation Farm of the Year.

Where is your farm located?

Silver Ridge Farm is located in South Stafford, Virginia off Belle Plains Rd. We’re just a short distance from downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia. Our address is 73 Silver Ridge Lane, Fredericksburg, VA 22405.

How much meat will I receive and how much will it cost?

Per Virginia state law, you will buy a portion of a live animal at $2.10 per pound and then pay a processing fee. We are currently selling whole, half, quarters and sixteenths of a beef. We must match orders up to sell a whole animal before it can be processed. Cost will vary based on the size of the animal.

Whole cow:  average cost $3,450-$3,975. Average take home weight is 400+ pounds

Half cow: average cost is $1,725-$1,990. Average take home weight is 200+ pounds

Quarter cow:  average cost is $865-$995. Average take home weight is 100+ pounds

We are also now selling limited quantities of our small shares- 1/16th of a beef. The average weight per share is around 25-30 lbs, and you can easily purchase online.

Can I buy just a couple steaks or pounds of hamburger?

As a state-inspected custom butcher, a whole beef must be sold before it can be harvested and processed. We are not able to sell individual cuts. However, we do offer a small share, around 25-30 lbs of meat, which offers a sampling of various steaks, roasts, ground beef and other cuts, which you can purchase online.

What can I expect to pick up with my order?

When you order a whole, half, or quarter of beef you will have the option to get a variety of cuts- steaks, roasts, etc, and about 35% will be ground burger. See our cut sheet for a list of cuts.

What if I want something that isn’t on your cut sheet?

We are happy to custom cut your order if it is within our ability.

What payment methods do you accept?

We currently accept cash or check at pick up.  New orders require a credit card number to reserve beef.

You can order one of our small shares online, using a credit card.

What do I need to pick up my beef?

Your beef will be frozen in our freezer trays and we ask that you bring coolers (preferred) or containers to bring your meat home.

How long will the beef keep in my freezer?

We double wrap with a plastic wrap, then butcher paper.  We recommend eating within a year for the best experience, but it will certainly keep longer.
